Area law enforcement from the Highland County Sheriff's Office and the Hillsboro Police Department had been seeking an escaped inmate from the Highland County Justice Center since Thursday afternoon. However, at 5:20 p.m. Friday, Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera said the inmate, Johnny D. Branham, 37, was apprehended near U.S. 52.

Branham had escaped from custody while at Highland District Hospital at approximately 5 p.m. Thursday. He was last seen wearing only red jail pants (no shirt or shoes) and was wearing leg cuffs.

According to a release by the Highland County Sheriff’s Office Friday night, Branham was taken into custody by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office late Friday afternoon. He faces extradition back to Highland County to face additional charges. As of Saturday night, Branham was still listed as being an inmate in Hamilton County.
