Hillsboro High School and Middle School students will be released as scheduled after being placed under lockdown for "an extended period of time" Tuesday.

Deanne Corder at the Hillsboro City Schools Central Office told The Highland County Press the lockdown was “precautionary.”

The school district released the following statement Tuesday afternoon:

“The Hillsboro MS/HS buildings were under a lockdown for an extended period of time today due to a threat discovered in the building. The Hillsboro Police Department was on site and helped secure the students and premises.

“At this point, we can not provide any further information due to the ongoing investigation. All the students will be released on time (Tuesday).

“All afternoon and evening activities are still scheduled as usual (Tuesday), including games and practices.”
