COLUMBUS – Speaker of the Ohio House Larry Householder (R-Glenford) has announced that State Representative John Becker (R-Union Township, Clermont County) has been promoted to serve as the chairman of the Federalism Committee in the Ohio House of Representatives, from his previous post as vice chairman.

Householder also appointed Becker to serve as a member of two other Ohio House committees, the Ways & Means Committee and the State & Local Government Committee.

“I greatly appreciate Speaker Householder’s confidence in me, and I’m excited about taking on the responsibility of leading the Federalism Committee," Becker said. "I am looking forward to maintaining the record of principled conservatism that I have built over my past six years serving southern Ohio in Columbus.

"I would not have the opportunity to earn this promotion if it were not for my constituents sending me to the Statehouse, and their values will remain paramount in my public service."

Becker is currently serving his fourth term in the Ohio House of Representatives. He represents the 65th House District in northwestern Clermont County, which includes parts of the cities of Loveland and Milford, the entirety of the villages of Newtonsville and Owensville, as well as Goshen, Miami, Stonelick, Union and Wayne townships.

Becker has lived in Clermont County for most of his life and currently resides in the Eastgate area of Union Township. He has been married to his wife Dottie for 29 years and has two adult children.

Becker earned his bachelor of science in management from Northern Kentucky University and his MBA with an emphasis in taxation from Xavier University. Becker has over 30 years’ experience in the private sector, including the manufacturing, managed healthcare, banking, and finance industries.

Prior to joining the Ohio House of Representatives, Becker served eight years as a Republican State Central Committeeman representing southern Ohio, including the counties of Lawrence, Scioto, Adams and Brown, in addition to his home county of Clermont. He has served his county party since 1993. To help spread his fiscally and socially conservative message, he regularly publishes his newsletter, “The Becker Report.”

Becker has received numerous awards recognizing his principled public service, including the William Wilberforce Elected Leadership award for upholding community values and improving the lives of Ohioans. Most recently, he was honored by the Republican Liberty Caucus of Ohio with the “Sponsor of Liberty” award for sponsoring more liberty-minded legislation than any other House Member. He is consistently recognized by the media as one of Ohio’s most conservative legislators.
