Law enforcement is currently searching for a 34-year-old Hillsboro man who escaped from custody during a sentencing hearing in Highland County Common Pleas Court Tuesday morning.

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera said that deputies are searching for Nickolaus Kyle Garrison, who is approximately six feet tall with blue hair. He was last seen wearing black pants and a blue shirt.

Barrera said law enforcement is “in the process of looking for” Garrison in the Hillsboro area.

Garrison was scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Tuesday for sentencing on a fifth-degree felony charge of aggravated possession of methamphetamine. According to Highland County Common Pleas Court office administrator Marsha Oyer, after the sentencing, Garrison ran from the courtroom.

“He came into court for sentencing, and when they were taking him into custody, he absconded from deputies,” Barrera said. “One of them was a court bailiff and one was a deputy.”

During the chase, the court bailiff was injured and taken to the hospital. Barrera said he believed the bailiff suffered broken ribs.

Anyone with information on Garrison’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Highland County Sheriff’s Office at (937) 393-1421.
