Rumble in the Hills hydroplane boat races will return to Rocky Fork Lake this weekend, Friday, July 19-Sunday, July 21.

On Friday evening, there will be a beer garden and live music from 6 p.m. until dark to kick off the weekend at the east end of the lake. On Saturday, there will be an opening ceremony by the Highland County Honor Guard at approximately 9 a.m., with the races beginning around 10 a.m.

After the races end at approximately 5 p.m., there will be live music and the beer garden again until the day ends, with fireworks at dark. On Sunday, the races are planning to begin around 11 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m.

Mike McGuire stated that both Saturday and Sunday there will be a kids zone with face-painting and games at the car show area at the East End Overlook off Lucas Lane. In addition, both days will include the Ohio Lottery present with new games, Lykins Energy set up with a $1,000 propane giveaway, helicopter rides, food vendors, a flea market, the Rocky Fork Sailing Club with a sailboat lesson giveaway and much more.

Those able to attend are encouraged to come out, support the local community and enjoy a great family fun weekend.

• Another great addition will be the the Highland County Fire Fighters Association's 16th annual Kroger Klassic Car show on Sunday, July 21 at the East Shore Overlook, 6451 Lucas Lane. Registration will be from noon-3 p.m. Trophies will be awarded and will be presented around 4 p.m. This is a new date and location for the show.

The show will be held in conjunction with the Rumble in the Hills Boat Races. Registration will be $10. There will also be a food drive. Car show participants bringing two canned goods will get $1 off registration, and if they bring four canned goods, they will get $2 off registration. Food donated will be taken to Samaritan Outreach Services.

All proceeds from the show go toward the Highland County Firefighters Association Training Program, and towards its annual safety day.

With the move to Rocky Fork Lake, and with the help of Mike McGuire, the car show has been able to add several activities to the show. Confirmed so far is a Monster Truck, Antique Police cars, and Replica Show cars from the "Dukes of Hazard," General Lee, Uncle Jesse’s Truck and a Hazard County sheriff's car. These activities, however, may change at a moment’s notice.

The fire association will have a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, raffle for a girl and a boy backpack of school supplies.

There will be some great silent auction items, including Reds tickets and a gift bag from the Dayton Dragons. They will also have a few vendors in the car show area, as well as the Rocky Fork Community Alliance flea market area close by.

Trophies will be guaranteed to the Top 40, with six cup trophies awarded for Best of Show, Club Participation, Furthest Distance Traveled, Ladies Choice and Best Antique.

"Teaming up with Joey McGuire and Mike McGuire and the Rumble in the Hills has already proven to us our future is bright with the car show," the association said. "We had to cut back to just 30 trophies, and this year with their help, we are back up to 40, plus the cups. We also want to thank Hobart. They let us use their lot for so many years; they’ve been great supporters over the last several years. Kroger returns for another year as a sponsor. Bell Gardens Place in Hillsboro, and Brothers Helping Brothers, a support organization for firefighters, are also major sponsors this year. We also thank so many others that sponsored trophies, door prizes and silent auction items.”
