Hydroplane racing returns to Rocky Fork Lake in two weeks, as the 2018 Rumble in the Hills roars into competition on July 21-22.

Event coordinator Mike McGuire met with several racing team members and Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District firefighters/EMTS Chris Sexton and Michael Glenn outside Joey's Pizza on Saturday, July 7 to discuss this year's event.

The race will be sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association (https://www.apba.org). In previous years, the event was known as Rocky Fork Thunder and the Thunder in the Hills Regatta.

According to Greg Kreitzer, Kreitzer Racing Team will have at least three and possibly four entries in this year's competition. He said the smaller boats will reach speeds of 100-115 miles per hour, while the larger boats will top out around 160 mph.

The Kreitzer Racing Team is a third-generation team, sponsored by the Duncan Oil Co. and Apollo Propane, Inc. of the Dayton area.
