Portman says he hopes Pawlenty runs for president
Ohio U.S. Senator Rob Portman said this weekend he supports Minnesota Republican Tim Pawlenty for president in 2012.
In a report from Michael O'Brien at www.thehill.com, the former Second District congressman from Terrace Park was quoted as saying, "I hope Tim Pawlenty will run because he has a great record and a great message."
Pawlenty was in Cincinnati to promote his new book, "Courage to Stand."
The former Minnesota governor is looking to build his profile in anticipation of a presidential bid, and praise from Portman could help him do so, O'Brien reported.
In addition to serving in Congress, Portman is a former U.S. Trade Representative and former director of the Office of Management and Budget. He was reportedly on the short list of vice presidential considerations for Sen. John McCain's presidential bid in 2008.
