Air Force Lt. Col. Kevin W. Gilbert has been named the 2014 Air Force Senior Military Scientist/Engineer of the Year.

Selection was based on the individual's exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, teamwork, significant self-improvement, personal achievements, notable accomplishments, and community service and support.

 

Gilbert is currently serving as the deputy of the Engineering and Integration Division with the Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles Air Force Base, Calif. He has served in the military for 20 years.

Gilbert is the son of Kathy Gilbert of Fergus Falls, Minn., nephew of Vicki and Steve Gilbert of Clemmons, N.C., Brenda Teague of Kernersville, N.C., cousin of Matt Johnsrud of Duluth, Minn., husband of Ronda Gilbert of Redondo Beach, Calif., and son-in-law of Judy Simmons of Lynchburg, Ohio, and Ron Simmons of Xenia, Ohio.

He is a 1988 graduate of Coon Rapids Senior High School, Coon Rapids, Minn. He earned an doctor of philosophy degree in 2009 from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, and a bachelor's degree in 1992 and a master's degree in 1994, both from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Ind.
