The Highland County Common Pleas Court has released video footage of a defendant who ran from the courtroom after sentencing.
Nickolaus Kyle Garrison, 34, of Hillsboro escaped from custody during a sentencing hearing in Highland County Common Pleas Court Tuesday morning.
Garrison was scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22 for sentencing on a fifth-degree felony charge of aggravated possession of methamphetamine. Judge Rocky Coss sentenced him to a definite determinate term of six months, according to court records.
According to Highland County Common Pleas Court office administrator Marsha Oyer, after the sentencing, Garrison ran from the courtroom.
“He came into court for sentencing, and when they were taking him into custody, he absconded from deputies,” Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera said. “One of them was a court bailiff and one was a deputy.”
During the chase, the court bailiff was injured — which can be seen in the video — and taken to the hospital.
Garrison is approximately six feet tall with blue hair. He was last seen wearing black pants and a blue shirt. Anyone with information on Garrison’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Highland County Sheriff’s Office at (937) 393-1421.
