The Highland County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a suspect who allegedly attempted to take control of a van parked at a North Shore Drive business Saturday.

According to Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera, on Saturday, Feb. 15, an unknown male suspect allegedly entered a maroon van parked at the business and put the vehicle in reverse. A juvenile was sitting in the van at the time of the alleged incident.

“Once he put the vehicle in reverse, the juvenile jumped out,” Barrera said. “The suspect put the vehicle in park and jumped out and ran into a nearby wood line.”

The suspect is described as a white male who was wearing a black leather jacket, blue jeans, black boots, a black ball cap and glasses at the time of the incident.

“We don’t believe he was trying to abduct a child,” Barrera said. “I don’t think he knew a child was in the van. Once he found out there was a child inside the van, he took off on foot.”

The Highland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this alleged incident. Anyone with information on the suspect or this case is asked to contact the HCSO by calling (937) 393-1421 or by texting HCSHERIFF and the message/tip to 847411 (tip411).
