Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District and the Hillsboro Police Department responded to a fire at 120 Governor Trimble Place at approximately 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 13.

The building is owned by Hillsboro Republican mayor Drew Hastings.

Workers were cutting into an area on the roof of the building when the fire started around 8 a.m.

The property owner was recently approved for tax dollars for the building demolition, which is in the beginning stages.

On March 20, City Auditor Gary Lewis received a purchase order request for $33,100 for the demolition costs. Lewis initially held off on the $33,100 purchase order request. The request was later approved after consultation with Law Director Fred Beery.

The building had been advertised as having space for lease earlier this year.
