On Wednesday, April 14, an officer with the Hillsboro Police Department obtained information about the Sept. 26, 2020 incident where two subjects allegedly poured dish soap into the decorative water fountain at the Highland County Courthouse, causing the fountain to overflow with bubbles.

Officers, along with a city maintenance employee, were able to shut down the fountain. City maintenance crews were able to clean and drain the fountain the following day.

Upon further investigation, Makayla A. Jordan, 21, of Lynchburg and Tristan M. Nicely, 23, of Hillsboro allegedly admitted to pouring dish soap into the fountain on the night of Sept. 26, 2020. Both subjects were charged with criminal mischief.
