Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini announced that his office received a 911 call on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 11:33 p.m. from a neighbor stating that a female had been shot in Portsmouth.

Captain John W. Murphy said that deputies, along with the Porter Township squad, responded to this location. On the deputy’s arrival they observed a female in the ,bedroom with a gunshot wound.

According to Murphy, detectives, along with a crime scene agent from BCI&I, responded to this location.

The victim, a 32-year-old female, was transported by air to Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va., where she was listed in critical condition.

Murphy said that during the investigation, a witness at the scene was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Jason Toland, 39, of Portsmouth had a warrant for inducing panic, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Toland was transported to the Scioto County Jail.
