WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) released the following statement after the signing of the United States and China Phase One trade agreement:

“This was a big step toward establishing fair trade practices with China and enabling American workers and businesses to compete on a level playing field. This agreement will push back on Chinese currency manipulation and protect American intellectual property.

"It will also create more opportunity for American farmers by committing China to structural reforms that will reduce unfair barriers and expand American agriculture sales to China. This agreement is fully enforceable, to ensure China will honor their commitments. There is much work to be done as we look toward a Phase Two agreement, but there’s no doubt, today’s agreement will help our farmers, workers, businesses, and all Americans."

• Wenstrup also released the following statement after Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a vote to transmit the articles of impeachment to the Senate:

“I find it ironic that Speaker Pelosi claimed that impeachment could not wait because the case for it was so strong and such a matter of national security, but then waited a month to transmit articles of impeachment to the Senate. Perhaps she realized that not one fact witness in the House testified that there was a crime or impeachable offense.

“In the meantime, the real world is marching on. Just today, President Trump signed Phase One of the trade deal with China, securing concessions no other administration has been able to negotiate with China. To the extent we can, Republicans will continue to pass meaningful legislation, reduce burdensome regulations, and keep America free, safe, and moving forward.”
