Attorney General Dave Yost has announced that a Monroe County transgender person has been found guilty of rape and charged as a sexually violent predator for actions against two minors.

“There is nothing uglier than the violation of children – this guy is a monster,” Yost said. “If I had it my way, the law for raping a small child would allow for the death penalty.”

Joshua Carpenter, aka Brittney Leanna Carpenter, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and is a Tier III sex offender. The jury was compelled as it heard from the victims who courageously confronted the predator with their testimony. The verdict in the rape trial was swiftly deliberated by the jury, which convicted Carpenter on each charge of rape with force of victims less than 10 years of age.

The jurors then considered testimony from the trial and subsequent conviction to weigh the charge against Carpenter as a sexually violent predator. The jury found that Carpenter had and would be likely to commit sexual crimes again. This charge resulted in a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility for parole.

This case was prosecuted by attorneys within the Ohio Attorney General’s Special Prosecution Section.?
