One of two area men charged with tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse following a January 2019 incident has been sentenced in Highland County Common Pleas Court.

As previously reported, Billy Joe Stone, 50, of Hillsboro, and Carl Lockhart, 59, of Bainbridge, were charged in May with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, and abuse of a corpse, a fifth-degree felony.

According to Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera, the charges were related to the death of a 41-year-old man, whose body was discovered in January 2019. The victim's body was found in a car near a business on North Shore Drive in the Rocky Fork Lake area.

Stone pleaded guilty to both charges in July and was sentenced Oct. 16 to a definite determinate term of 23 months in prison, with jail time credit of 134 days.

Lockhart has also entered a guilty plea and is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 23.
