The statistics for the week beginning Monday, Dec. 25 through Sunday, Dec. 31 are as follows: the Hillsboro Police Department received 376 calls, 14 of which were 911; investigated 10 crashes; took three offense reports; made 15 arrests; and completed 216 security checks.

On Monday, Jan. 1, the Hillsboro Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle in the 100 block of South High Street. The driver of the 1999 GMC truck, later identified as Samuel Stone, 29, of Hillsboro, continued southbound on South High. When approaching a separate traffic stop initiated by another Hillsboro police officer, Stone lost control of the vehicle and struck a 2004 Jeep which was pulled over in the 600 block of South High Street.

Stone then left the scene of the crash and continued southbound. He was stopped by Hillsboro police just south of the city limits.

Betty Lewis, 55, of Hillsboro, was the operator of the struck vehicle. Lewis reported injury and was treated on the scene by the Paint Creek life squad.

Stone was cited for OVI, failure to comply with order of police officer, reasonable control, leaving the scene of an accident, unnecessary noise/tires and failure to drive in marked lanes.
