The Fairfield Lions baseball team clinched the 2022 Southern Hills Athletic Conference Division I championship with a 3-0 win over the host Eastern Warriors.
FHS scored their runs early and kept the Warriors at a distance, starting with a 2-0 lead after the first inning was finished, followed by one run in the top of the third to finalize all the scoring the SHAC game saw.
The Lions finished with seven hits and three errors, while Eastern totaled two runs and two errors.
In the top of the first, the Lions started with a single by Dow Moon, and Jacob Morgan followed by taking first base on an error, allowing Moon to score the first run of the game. On that same sequence, Morgan advanced to second base, then later moved to third on on a fly ball out.
Cade Miller batted in Morgan for the run off a line drive hit to centerfield, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.
The third inning saw Fairfield’s run score as Gabe Fouch — who hit a line drive single to left field — went to second base on a single by Miller. Next, Fouch scored on an error which began on a ground ball hit by Hunter Burns.
Of the seven total hits by Fairfield, Miller led the way by going 3-for-3 with one RBI. Next was Moon at 2-for-4 with one run. Also with hits were Fouch (one run) and Owen Larrick, as he also had a steal.
Fouch was the winning pitcher, totaling 116 pitches in seven innings for a complete game. Fouch allowed no runs on two hits and four walks, totaling 14 strikeouts in the win.
Fairfield’s win moves them to 15-4 overall with a SHAC record of 11-2. This season in SHAC games the Lions outscored their opponents, 119-24.
