Longtime Highland County Engineer Dean Otworth has resigned, effective April 30. Otworth informed Highland County commissioners Jeff Duncan, Terry Britton and Gary Abernathy of his decision at their Wednesday, March 27 board meeting.

Otworth has accepted the position of deputy director of operations at the central office of the Ohio Department of Transportation. He recommended that Deputy Engineer Chris Fauber be appointed as county engineer.

"Chris is dual licensed and has great experience with the office," Otworth said.

Otworth thanked commissioners and the people of Highland County.

"I appreciate the opportunities that I've had in Highland County," Otworth said. "This is a great county with great people, and I'll miss it very much. This is bittersweet. It was not an easy decision, and I've wrestled with it for a while."

"We hate to see you go," Duncan told Otworth. "But we also don't want to stand in the way of a great opportunity for you."

Otworth will continue with the engineer's office through April 30. He has served as engineer for the past 26-plus years and has been with the office for more than 33 years.
