Public powerless to prevent Flint water crisis
Friday, February 19, 2016 9:38 AM
The Flint situation has received so much media attention that you might assume it is the only place water is unsafe. The little town of Sebring in northeastern Ohio has the same problem and has handled it in about the same fashion. City officials reportedly knew there was lead in the water for five months before they told the public.

Every day, you hear or read about a poll or two about the primaries. Trouble is, the media do not tell you much about the polls.

Betting on the lottery
Thursday, January 28, 2016 5:54 AM
The lottery is stacked against you, but you may get some satisfaction out of the fact that you are helping education. Besides, in all gambling, the odds are against the bettor. Bet as you will, but don’t expect to win.

Public school funding needs complete overhaul
Saturday, January 9, 2016 2:44 AM

Classified or not?

Longing for the Labor Day of old
Monday, September 7, 2015 2:45 AM
We have 15 million workers who work full-time, but get food stamps because their pay is not enough to enable then to feed their families. Is it any wonder that I long for those old-time Labor Days?

Charter school problems persist
Tuesday, September 1, 2015 11:22 AM
Charter schools in Ohio are not making education better. The billion dollars we were putting into charter schools would do more if we gave it to the 612 public school. The Ohio Legislature owes us a better effort on these issues.

Monday, July 27, 2015 3:51 AM
The Department of Natural Resources is on record as saying that letters from perhaps a hundred or more citizens count less than the words of one oil and gas executive.
