Betty Bishop thankful for support during cancer battle
To the editor:
I want to thank my family, church family, friends, neighbors and my community for the many prayers, cards, phone calls and food which I received during my recent illness.
In October 2021, I was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer. After three surgeries and 18 weeks of chemo, on April 13, following an MRI and two CT scans, the preliminary report advised all was normal.
I also want to thank Dr. Jolitz and the medical team at HDH, as well as Dr. Jackson and Dr. Meier and all the medical teams at the University of Cincinnati Hospital and the UC Barrett Cancer Center, for their professional medical advice and kindness. They are also advising five weeks of radiation therapy as a precautionary measure, which will begin April 26.
I have always had a deep faith in God, and through all of this I have asked Him to guide me all the way. I have been reminded over and over again of the greatness of God. Not my will but His. He was my God before all this started, and He will be my God throughout Eternity.
Again, thank you all.
Betty Bishop

Great news. As I say, it is all God, the doctors and the researchers. We cancer survivors are just along for the ride. I am glad you didn't say "cancer free" for that is a misnomer. All of us have cancer, it is just a matter if it is detectable. So "clear" is the correct term, as Joanne Whitley said above. For encouragement for others, I was first diagnosed with cancer, Valentine's Day, 2000. Yes, 2000, that is not a typo. This past Saturday, I served as best man at Joyce and Tom Ward's wedding in Fayetteville and was dancing at the Orpheum at the celebration afterward. Then drove back to Atlanta on Sunday. I will be 72 in July. Cancer is not always debilitating or a death sentence.
