Ohio Supreme Court did not rule school funding system constitutional in 2002-03 DeRolph cases
Friday, March 26, 2021 11:59 AM
Some anti-public school folks in Ohio have a campaign in progress that the current egregiously flawed system of school funding had been declared constitutional by the Ohio Supreme Court. They cite the Ohio History Connection document –
DeRolph v. State of Ohio
– as evidence. That document includes a statement that is completely antithetical to the Court decisions in DeRolph.

DeRolph case was 24 years ago
Wednesday, March 24, 2021 10:13 AM
Twenty-four years ago on March 24, 1997, the Ohio Supreme Court in the DeRolph decision declared that Ohio’s elementary and secondary schools were neither thorough nor efficient; thus, the system was ruled unconstitutional. The decision turned on the thorough and efficient system clause of Article VI, Section 2 of the Ohio Constitution.

Resident speaks out against Hillsboro rezoning issue
Tuesday, March 16, 2021 6:11 AM
I still don't understand how a choice such as this could be made about a property I own without my consent. I certainly understand someone wanting a property that is for sale to be able to be sold, but why on earth pick/choose others as well who did not ask for such a thing.

School funding plan will have to wait
Monday, December 14, 2020 8:24 AM
The Supreme Court ordered a complete systematic overhaul of the school funding system. The over-emphasis on property tax in the funding formula and operation of the defective funding formula were cited as decisive problems. The court ordered the state to fix the system. The system has not been fixed.
