Jacob Dawson has announced he will be running for state representative in the 86th House District. The 86th District includes Clinton, Highland and Pike counties.

Dawson will run as a Libertarian on the ballot making this year’s election a three-way race.

Dawson observed that "with the exception of foreign affairs, many of the problems that confront the nation are also issues in Ohio.

“It’s time that Ohio government stopped practicing the reckless behavior that we see in Washington. We should be leaders not imitators," Dawson said. "The two-party system has proven that they cannot govern effectively; therefore I, and other Libertarians, want to lead the way to a stronger Buckeye State.”

Ohio Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner, has issued a directive giving the Libertarian Party ballot access this year due to previous lawsuits in 2006 and 2008 that were lost by the state. Dawson said “this will truly bring free markets to the election booths. This year the voters will have more of a choice come general election time.”

Dawson also added “as current chairman of the Legislative Relations Committee in the Libertarian Party of Ohio, my team and I will continue to negotiate with Ohio legislators to insure a permanent solution to this issue will be resolved in current bills being merged by the House and Senate (HB 260 and SB 8).”

Some claim that Libertarians take votes away from the Republican candidates.  Dawson said “the time has come where the voters can tell no difference between the Democrats and Republicans once elected, whereas elected Libertarians truly practice smaller government, lower taxes and more freedoms.”
