There is just one basketball game on the schedule for Highland County high school athletics for Wednesday with the McClain Tigers hosting the Adena Warriors in a non-conference game at MHS.

Besides having just one game for Wednesday, that won’t be the case for Thursday through Saturday with a total of 10 games on the schedule those three days to wrap up the 2017 calendar year, but we’ll talk more about those games tomorrow.

As for a game covered by the HCP on Saturday, the McClain Lady Tigers gained their first win of the season with an overtime win against Hillsboro. Covering two teams from Highland County is fun, but it is also tough as well. Both teams played the game hard, but there were a total of 65 fouls called and 77 free throws taken, so a lot of the game was played from the free-throw line.

All in all, it was a good way to head into the holiday, and for McClain, congratulations to them on their first win of the season.

A game that is available to read online at highlandcountypress.com occurred on Friday night when the Whiteoak Wildcats boys team lost by just a single point to Westfall. The road loss saw WHS fall by a 47-46 score, but even with the loss, this team is playing well this season, even if it hasn’t shown on the scoreboard.

WHS has played in some tough, closely played games thus far in the 2017-18 season, and for a program that is rebuilding, that is what many want to see as they keep improving throughout the remainder of the regular season.

Here is a look at games for Wednesday.

• McClain vs. Adena

These two neighboring schools are just around 20 miles apart, and for these Highland County and Ross County schools, it is a good way for fans of both schools to see a game and not have to travel a long distance to do so.

The Tigers — who have two wins this season — are coming off a loss from Saturday night where they lost to Ironton in another non-conference game, and they have just one win on the season as they’ve battled injuries as they work on playing consistent basketball.

Adena has yet to gain a win this season with losses to Berne Union, Southeastern, Piketon, Westfall, Paint Valley and East Clinton.

Also a reminder, there will be no freshman game for McClain vs. Adena, so the JV game will start at 6 p.m. followed by the varsity contest.
