Whiteoak High School has hired two new high school varsity basketball coaches this week, with Blake Kibler taking over the boys basketball program and Steve Smith returning to take over as the girls basketball head coach.
Kibler and Smith are both high school graduates of Whiteoak, and for Smith, this is his second stint as the Whiteoak girls basketball varsity head coach. Kibler has previously coached the Southern State men's basketball team.
"Both Blake and Steve are Whiteoak graduates. They know the district and community and both had expressed interest in coaching for us," BLSD Superintendent Ted Downing said.
For the boys varsity program, Kibler replaces Jeremy McGraw as head coach, as McGraw coached WHS for three seasons. Smith is replacing Randy Abbott as the WHS head coach, who coached the Lady ‘Cats for the past two seasons.
The varsity boys WHS team finished this past season at 4-19 overall, 1-12 in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference. The Lady ‘Cats were 3-20 overall, 2-11 in the SHAC, while winning one game in tournament play.
