Jared McLaughlin and Alex Pinkerton, co-captains of the Lynchburg-Clay boys soccer team, both signed their letters of intent to play soccer at Southern State Community College.

In their four years of high school soccer, they were part of three sectional titles and league champions in their junior and senior years.

They were members of an LC team that went untied and undefeated and were one tie away from repeating that feat their senior season.

Both athletes have played several sports at LC, with McLaughlin playing four years of soccer, one year of cross-country, two years of basketball, two years of bowling and four years of track & field.

Pinkerton played four years of soccer, two years of basketball, two years of bowling, two years of baseball and two years of track.

The two young men have also earned individual awards in several sports. Their soccer accomplishments include:

• McLaughlin: Honorable Mention All-Southeast District and the OHSAA Senior Excellence Award;

• Pinkerton: Three years All-Conference and first-team, second-team and honorable mention All-Southeast District.

The coaching staff at SSCC are excited about the two young men joining their program.

"We are counting on Alex and Jared to come in as freshmen and contribute right away. They are high-quality people and high-quality players," SSCC soccer coach Josh Thoroman wrote in a statement.

"They will represent the college very well, and we are excited to add them to our program."
