On the road Tuesday night, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs defeated the Ripley Blue Jays in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play by a 60-50 score at RHS.

With the win, the Mustangs move to 4-1 in the SHAC and 7-3 overall.

LC led by two points after the first quarter by a 10-8 score, but the Blue Jays rallied in the second frame with a 20-point quarter, while LC scored 14 points. At the conclusion of the second and going into halftime, the Mustangs trailed Ripley, 28-24.



In the 10-point first quarter by LC, Damin Pierson and Michael Heindel each sank a 3-pointer, while Joe Giordano scored four points in the quarter.

The second frame for LC saw nine points from Giordano, while Pierson sank another 3-pointer and Eric McLaughlin scored two points.

In all for LC, Giordano led with 19 points (seven rebounds), followed by McLaughlin with 15 points (eight rebounds), Pierson with 12 (nine rebounds) and Brian Lampkin wth 10 points (three assists).

In the third, the Mustangs erupted for 21 points, and the defense of LC held the Blue Jays to single digits at nine points. In the fourth, LC outscored RHS, 15-13.

For LC in the third quarter, Pierson sank his final two 3-pointers, and Lampkin also connected with a trey, as he scored seven points in the quarter. Also in the third, Giordano and McLaughlin each scored four points.

The Mustangs in the fourth had scoring from McLaughlin, Austin Hilt, Giordano and Lampkin. McLaughlin swished a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, plus added two two-point baskets and two free throw conversions.

Next for LC is a home game vs. West Union, with the freshman game starting at 4:30 p.m.
