They didn’t score until the fourth inning on Wednesday, but the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs overcame a three-run deficit to earn a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win over the visiting North Adams Green Devils.

LC (2-1, 2-3) defeated the Mustangs by a 6-3 score, plating two runs in the fourth, two more in the fifth and two final runs in the sixth to seal the win.

The winning pitcher was Bricen Hess. He pitched all seven innings, totaling 12 strikeouts.

“We fought through some early errors and sluggish play in the early innings,” LC head coach Vince Pitzer said. “Bricen kept it close on the mound for us until we got the sticks going. He pitched a heck of a game, going the distance and registering his 12 strikeouts.”

The fourth inning had runs scored by Zack Proctor and Alex Barber, who was a pinch runner for PJ Fiscus. Fiscus reached the bases in the fourth with a base hit, while Proctor took to the bases on an infield error.

In the fifth, the Mustangs had runs scored by Blake Croy and Forrest Elam, with both batters reaching the bases with doubles. Elam’s double knocked in Croy.

The sixth inning saw Josh Wolfe and Croy round the bases, with Croy batting in Wolfe as Wolfe singled, stole second and reached third on a wild pitch before the single from Croy. Wolfe finished 2-for-5 with one run.

Croy scored the sixth LC run of the SHAC contest with a steal of second and raced home on a base hit from Ethan McConnaughey. Croy ended the day 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

The hits leader for LC was Drew Pitzer at 3-for-5 with one double. Also with two hits each were McConnaughey at 2-for-3 with one RBI and Fiscus at 2-for-4.

Also with one hit each for the Mustangs were Caden Hess (one RBI), Elam (one RBI) and Proctor (one run).
