Mona Garman Pearce, 81, of Greenfield, died at 1:54 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2010 in her home.
Born Jan. 4, 1929 in Samantha, she was the daughter of W.C. and Cecil Washburn Garman.
Mrs. Pearce owned and operated Pearce’s Family Restaurant in Hamilton, Ohio along with her husband, Jim, and later managed Pearce’s Restaurant in Greenfield, Ohio after her in-laws, Jacob and Elizabeth Pearce, retired. She worked as the office manager for Hixson Oil Co. for 15 years and had a real estate license.
A 1947 graduate of Hillsboro High School, Mrs. Pearce was the first female newspaper carrier in Hillsboro. She was a charter member of the Y-Gradale Club in Greenfield and was one of the club’s first presidents. She taught Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield and sang in the church choir. She was an avid bridge player.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years, James E. Pearce, whom she married July 20, 1947. She is also survived by two sons, Dr. James J. Pearce of Washington, Illinois and David C. Pearce of Lebanon; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindi Pearce and Don Dietrich of Greenfield; five grandchildren, Jacob D. Pearce-Dietrich and his wife, Jocelyn, of Greenfield, Pearce G. Dietrich of Athens, Liza R. Dietrich of Greenfield and Aaron C. Pearce and Shoshana E. Pearce, both of Peoria, Ill.; a great-granddaughter, Jada Pearce-Dietrich; a step-grandson, Eric G. Dietrich; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dane and Jewel Garman of Greenfield, Walter and Irene Garman of Hillsboro and George and Jeanie Garman of Bellevue, Pa.; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. George F. and Joellen M. Pearce of Pensacola Beach, Fla., and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jack R. Garman.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 in the Greenfield First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Anderson-Strueve Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
