Donald C. Sams, Jr., of Hillsboro, passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 10, 2017 at his home. 

He was born Sept. 9, 1942, in Hillsboro, the son of the late Donald C. Sr. and Katherine (Newby) Sams.

Following graduation from the New Mexico Military Institute, he received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Wilmington College. He was the Vice President of Print Production at Carlson Marketing (formerly E.F. McDonald Co.) for 27 years. He was a resident of West Carrollton from 1970 until 1990, when he and his wife moved back to Hillsboro.   

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy R. (Rooney) Sams, whom he married on Aug. 31, 1963 in Hillsboro. He is also survived by two children, Carolyn Sams of Kettering and Nicholas Sams of Billings, Mont.; and a brother-in-law, James (Carol) Rooney of Hillsboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Sams. 

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. The Turner & Son Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
