Highland County Commission President Shane Wilkin filed his petitions for the 91st House District seat Tuesday, Feb. 6 at the Highland County Board of Elections.

Wilkin was accompanied by his wife, Kristy, and daughters, Piper and Parker.

Wilkin announced his candidacy for Ohio's 91st House of Representatives' District on Jan. 23. The district includes Clinton, Highland and Pike counties, and parts of Ross County.

Wilkin received the endorsement of the Highland County Republican Party Central Committee on Tuesday, Jan. 23. He will be holding a campaign kickoff reception from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 at Alley 21.

Wilkin, a Republican, was first elected as a county commissioner in the 2008 general election. His fellow commissioners have voted him commission president from 2009-18.

In addition to owning a family business, Wilkin also is a real estate professional, working with Donald E. Fender, Inc. Realtors in Hillsboro. He is a past president of the Highland County Board of Realtors.

Wilkin will have a GOP primary opponent in the May 8 election, as Clinton County native Beth Ellis of Sabina announced her candidacy for state representative in May 2017. Ellis is also seeking the Republican nomination. Current 91st District Rep. Cliff Rosenberger will vacate the seat at the end of 2018 due to term limits.
