The Highland County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of two people found dead in Union Township in Highland County Friday.

The deceased subject inside the home on Powell Road has been identified as Tyler South, 21, of Dayton. The deceased victim inside the vehicle on Powell Road has been identified as Jaydon Boggs, 18, of Dayton.

The Highland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting and possible home invasion in the 5000 block of Powell Road in Union Township.

At approximately 7:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, deputies were called to Powell Road.

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera also was on the scene. He said on the preliminary investigation, it "appears to be a home invasion."

Barrera told The Highland County Press that one person was shot at the Powell Road home. The HCSO also reported an auto accident Friday morning that may be related to the Powell Road incident.

Highland County Coroner Dr. Jeff Beery was called to the scene. 

According to Barrera, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 transfer call from Clinton County of a one-vehicle crash on Powell Road, in Union Township, Highland County, Friday morning.

The Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District arrived on the scene and shortly thereafter, the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived. The OSHP contacted the Highland County Sheriff’s Office and advised that inside the vehicle was a deceased male with a single gunshot wound.

The Highland County Sheriff’s Office then received a 911 call from a residence on Powell Road that a male subject had broken a glass door and entered the home.

Barrera said the male subject was carrying a firearm when he had gained entry into the home. The homeowners ordered him out of their home. The subject failed to leave the residence and the homeowner fired one round, striking the male subject in the chest. 

The male subject was deceased at the scene when deputies and emergency services arrived.

Detectives and Ohio BCI&I were called to the scene for the investigation. 

The case remains under investigation by the Highland County Sheriff's Office.
