Longtime Highland County Fair Board member and executive secretary Kathy DeRose passed away Thursday, Dec. 28.

She was 64.

DeRose was a 4-H advisor for over 30 years and was a member of the Canters Cave 4-H Camp Board. She was currently executive secretary of the Highland County Fair Board, where she also served on numerous committees.



DeRose was also president of the Lynchburg Lions Club and a member of numerous other local organizations, including the F.O.E. Aerie 1161 Ladies Auxiliary and the Buford Farmers Institute as well as attending Pricetown Church of Christ. She was a member of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, having worked for Highland District Hospital for nine years and the Wilmington Medical Associates for 25 years.

DeRose is survived by two children and three grandchildren. Services are scheduled for noon Monday, Jan. 1 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Friends and family may call from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31 at the funeral home.
