Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of March 13-19, 2017, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 233 911 calls, answered 162 requests for service, dispatched 122 fire and EMS runs, took 35 offense reports and investigated five traffic crashes.
Deputies were dispatched to a residential burglar alarm on Shirley Drive at 3:40 p.m. on March 13. When they arrived on scene, an open door was located. Deputies cleared the residence and waited for the keyholder to arrive. Nothing appeared to have been taken and no report was necessary.
On March 16 at 12:29 p.m., the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence on state Route 136. After arriving on scene and interviewing both parties, deputies arrested Chauntae Elizabeth Cox, 26, of Hillsboro on one count of domestic violence.
At 4:26 a.m. on March 19, the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a South Taylorsville Road residence. The caller reported an intoxicated male subject was there making threats and waving a knife. While deputies were en route to the location, the subject left in a green four-door car. Witnesses advised a female may have been assaulted during the confrontation, but no one knew her identity. Deputies checked the area for the suspect and the vehicle but neither was located. This incident remains under investigation.
A Pea Ridge Road resident called the Sheriff’s Office at 7:55 a.m. on March 19 to report a domestic disturbance involving a juvenile and his mother. Deputies arrived on scene and interviewed several witnesses. The male juvenile was taken in to custody and charged with one count of domestic violence. He was transported to J.D.C by Highland County Justice Center staff.
