  • UPDATED: RFL funding from 2016 grant in question; recycling specialist resigns
    Local funding from a 2016 Department of Justice grant of $843,498 for the Rocky Fork Lake Area Safety and Advancement Plan remains in question, Highland County Commission President Shane Wilkin said at the board's Wednesday, Feb. 21 meeting. The nearly $1 million grant was announced Oct. 5, 2016 by U.S. Sen. Rob Portman during a conference call with the county commissioners.

    The tournament road continues for the Fairfield Lions, who won in convincing fashion on Wednesday night and were led by four players in double figures as they defeated the Clay Panthers, 69-43, securing their spot in the Division IV SE District Sectional Finals next week.

  • Slow start sends McClain to loss in sectional semifinals
    A very slow start to the Division II SE District Sectional Semifinal game for the McClain Tigers proved to be costly, as the Tigers had their season come to a final destination on Tuesday night, falling to the Miami Trace Panthers, 63-39.

  • Auditor Yost to release report on patterns of noncompliance with Medicaid

    At 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 in Room 109 of the Ohio Statehouse, Auditor of State Dave Yost will release a 20-page report detailing patterns of noncompliance with the Ohio’s Medicaid program by those providing care to our most needy. The report highlights the costs and dangers citizens face when Medicaid providers disregard the regulation put in place to prevent fraud and inadequate care.

    'The Ohio waiver would require able-bodied people of working age who receive care through Medicaid expansion to work at least 80 hours a month. The state estimates this will cause more than 18,000 people to lose coverage. Many of those people likely already hold low-wage jobs.'

Heroin Addiction Recovery Time (HART) is hosted by First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield every Wednesday from 3-4 p.m. This is a support group for those struggling with addictions and their family members. Meetings are held in the fellowship room of the church (use administrative office entrance on east side of the building), located at 457 Jefferson Street in Greenfield. A spaghetti dinner will be held Friday, Feb. 23 from 5-7 p.m. at the Lynchburg Fire Department building. Donations will be accepted for meals, which include spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, dessert and drink. There will also be live music. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Because He Lives Food Pantry.
